There is a 2010 thread close to this, about wearing white socks with white trousers

But that is the wrong way to approach it

Issue is I stocked up on white cotton and linen trousers for the spring/summer and would like to consult the public opinion here on which type/colour of socks to wear with them.

Yes there is the naked feet option but I believe that is only appropriate for a limited set of use cases- so please let's think socks and white trousers:

What gives?

I like pastel colored socks. Mostly light blue 100% cotton thin socks. Pink if I'm feeling adventurous.

No socks. Only not approp for work, but if that's the case one probably shouldn't be wearing white trousers to work anyway.

Same as always. Wear whatever socks you like. It's not often worth fussing about what is the right socks -- this is like getting OCD about matching your brown belts exactly to your brown shoes. There are more important details, like the color of your shirt, etc., that are more worth deep thought. Get in the ballpark and you are good. Wear loud if you want loud, sedate if you do not want your underwear to be something people talk to you about.

I would wear no socks, or maybe light blue, or some kind of light brown and gray birdseye, or maybe a pale yellow. Would depend on the rest of the outfit.

If it is appropriate to wear white pants it is often also appropriate to go without socks. I certainly would not do white socks - rather pastels (blue, green, pink, yellow)

Any color is good. You're already ****** the rules with your white pants. Go further and wear whatever you like - purple driving mocs with no socks, tan Chelsea boots with Mickey Mouse socks, white chukkas with white socks, crocs with navy socks (sprezzatura!), etc.

Have fun and live happy.

Not everybody works where you work? You need to know where a guy works, before you decide what's good or bad?

Depends on the outfit, I suppose. If you're wearing a navy jacket, then navy socks. A brown sweater, probably brown socks.

I'd flip-flop that.
