A lot of competition for those two flank positions. Notably weak in central midfield, defense, and possibly goalkeeper. Wouldn't exactly cal them "stacked."

hah it was enough to get 3rd place in EPL and they've only improved. Fighting for 4th is the goal so that new blood can be brought in and sold [for a loss] later

Casillas ? Xav (close calls), Iniesta, messi to date, Puyol, rest of barca academy products that stayed, Zanetti should be counted here...
Its very easy to be loyal to a club that is winning titles and paying you better than anyone else. If you want loyal look no further than Matt le Tissier.[/quote]

well that;s why i said close calls for xavi. he (and puyol and others) went through the years of winning nothing with barca, xavi almost went to united too but fortunately stayed put. i don't disagree that loyalty is a rarity though, but i think it's just the nature of the game now that it no longer exists.

They did well to get third, no doubt about it. But my point was that I wouldn't call the Arsenal squad "stacked," and certainly not in the areas I pointed out. The fact that you even mentioned Djourou is :rotflmao:

And Mertesacker, while I love the guy (and he was excellent for German NT and in the Bundesliga), is an absolute donkey. Guy has the turning radius of a city bus.

Was going to mention this as well^^ Defense needs some consistency.

Podolski, Giroud, Oxlade
Arteta, Cazorla, Song (?)
BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH

Wilshire is going to result in a new Owen Hargreaves. Didgeradoo is laughable. Mertersacker is valued for his height only. Vermaelen is the only strong point back there w/ Sagna out for ages.

Offense does look better, and I hope they get a decent payday for this (already) overly drawn out transfer of RVP. Doubt Song goes to Barça just to take Keita's position firmly on the bench.

I hope this stacking of elite teams totally backfires. Already you see Pedro groaning about playing time, Affelay hoping for time, etc. Trophies are great, but the true players will want to be on the pitch.

djourou is a net negative, mr mango butter loves to assist the other team in scoring

I disagree abt Verm, very overrated as to how good he actually is, just loud and fiery but Kosc has made for better defender.

I can't wait for Denison to come back :sarcasm:

Djourou is an utility player not a first choice...

Kosc is a very good player...

Do not forget he is a late developer playing in second tiers French football 4 years ago..

He will get better and better..

Vermalen is a good player too such as Sagna...

Which one?
Mills or Smith?
Jake Livermore, signed on loan end of 2011 season and was shite. I've never seen a player play worse for the Peacocks than him (and been sober enough to judge the performance)..

Squillaci to Olmpiacos for a million pounds would be a good bit of business. It's not that I hate the guy, it's just that I don't really know him - he's just there

We've got youthful options for that central defense position, Kyle Bartley's been bumped up to first team status, there's also Miquel and Jenkinson. Granted, we can't rely on them alone and will need to pair them with responsible adults on the pitch, but it's looking good.
