Well that was good fun, just got back from Sounders/Chelsea, ended 2-4 to Chelsea. All the goals were in the first half, which was well played. The action slowed down a bit in the 1/2 half.

I thought that the Sounders played remarkably well given the opposition. But no one here knows anything about them, so I will just talk about Chelsea.

Hazard looked great. He was at the middle of the action when he was on the pitch, lots of intelligent passes, movement and solid footwork. It was great to see a new player so involved in the game. He is not big though so will see how he holds up against EPL defenders. Really an impressive player though. I got the sense he likes to play centrally, so he and Mata will need to sort that out.

Lukaku (our underutilized pick up from last year) is a huge man and with massive potential. He is going to be a real handful once he has a solid year or two of EPL games under his belt. He scored 2, one by driving into the box and overpowering everyone in his way, looked like you know who...... I don't he how he and Torres could play together, so I guess that means he is going to get loaned out or just get used in Carling Cup/off the bench rarely, which would be a waste.

new hire Marin looked good as well, nice shots on goal. He should get a fair amount of playing time during the regular season.

I have other thoughts as well but I will spare you since people don't like reading long posts, esp about teams they don't care about....

I want to readz teh reviewz!

What kit numbers were the new signings wearing?

I'd always read and seen Hazard on the left wing - but that's where Mata usually played too before last year.

What's your predicted startingXI for Chelsea?

Starting 11 is so tough. It looks like they have picked up Oscar, so there is a real log jam of good midfielders now. So maybe this:

    Torres

    Mata----Hazard----Ramirez

    Oscar----Mikel

    Cole---Terry---Luiz---Ivanovic

    Cech

...with Mikel playing deeper than Oscar, who I am hoping will be a playmaker. If Oscar does not join, I would put in Lampard for him.

Mikel is not always my favorite as he tends to slow play down, but if he is not in there, the formation will be too heavy on attack. As it is, there are 5 players I listed who are not strong defensively. In the midfield, only Mikel is a physically strong player. Drogba, by his 2nd year or so, was contributing up front and defensively and was physically strong everywhere on the pitch. They have lost that completely.

But look who this leaves on the bench though: Lukaku, Marin, Essien, Mikel, Cahill, Romeu and De Bruyne. I am not sure what to do about Marin and Lukaku, who are very talented and deserve a chance to prove themselves. It will be frustrating at first, but Chelsea play so many damn games once the cup competitions start that they should get opportunities.

But where do you fit people like CL final starter Bertrand? Romeu? There are worse problems to have. If this team knits together, they will be incredible.

More review of game tomorrow. Good to see Chelsea back in action. (Hazard wore 17, Marin was 20, Lukaku was 18)

edit: forgot about Sturridge, where does he fit? Can't say.

edit #2: forgot about Meireles lol, maybe he moves in for Mikel

Oh man you got that right. But now things are getting better I think. It's a roller coaster ride being an Arsenal fan. Lewandowski is the latest name to be linked to a possible transfer. Niang is basically completed. Good pickup for the future. Paulinho is also the latest transfer target. I would like Afellay so it'd be nice to see us get a Barca player after they nabbed Cesc back. On the RvP front, there's alot of positive and interesting rumors. Apparently he's at training and has told Arsenal brass he wants to sit down to discuss his future, either way. At least the possibility of staying isn't ruled out. Then there's Boris Becker tweeting that he's signed a two year contract with Arsenal. Where that came from I don't know and why he'd post it on Twitter without knowledge is baffling. But still, take that with a grain of salt. Hopefully the RvP thing gets resolved soon. Another day, more rumors swirling around. At least it's more positive than negative.

Niang has been playing in Ligue 1 for Caen for 2 seasons now...

Will get much better under Wenger..

Hope so. We do have good future prospects in Niang now, Campbell, Miyaichi, etc. Just want to see some transfers that help us now. A midfielder and defender will do. Plus the whole RvP saga needs to end. Getting tired of seeing top players (Clichy (for money), Cesc (he had Barca dna so can't help but wish him the best), Nasri (fuck that pathetic cunt) go each year, so hopefully we can either get RvP to stay on board, or leave quick to reinvest the fees. Just appears like we have been a player or two short for too long now.

I don't like the new Leeds home kit but anything looks better than scum's. It somehow looks even worse in real life as well :D

Supposedly signing Squilacci on a season long loan today, didn't think he'd be a Warnock type player to be honest nor one who will cope with the Second Division.

Squillacci has been crap for years..

No small clubs from Ligue 1 will take him on...

    Enough said.

sorry but this goes back a lot farther. think of how many player's we've made captain only to sell the very next summer? goes to at least Viera, and happened with everyone from Henry, Cesc, Toure, Gallas, etc
We are a selling club, say what you will but the players are fed up with the lousy socialist system we have in place

consider the wage gap between our highest and lowest
now consider the wage gap between, say, ManU's highest and lowest

our top players are payed a fraction of their top players (Which is fine!)
but our worst players are payed only some 30% less than our top, you think some monkey warming the United bench makes 70% of what rooney does ? forget it.
we reward mediocrity and hold out on talent ...

players also want the chance to win trophies but people realize that when every season you sell your best player that's nto gonna happen. so of course you get the likes of Adebayor, Nasri, CLichy, all wanting out too because they are actually talented -- hell clichy looks a million times better now that the Arsenal Butchers in the med staff can't mess with him. In fact even Henry was healthier after leaving, we have one of the worst medical staff of top teams, the number of recurring injuries is mind blowing.

Now we have become a stepping stone for young hopeful players trying to break into the european scene. Since 2006 we have generated a net profit (last i checked which was last summer) meaning that from the sale of all the big names we haven't re-invested into the squad but it's just gone to line the pockets of the suits upstairs.

And now it's gotten to the point where dummies like Walcott feel entitled to negotiate for 100k/week contracts :fu:
