1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Athetico Madrid are absolutely destroying Chelsea in the Super Cup, 3-0 at the half. Falcao has already scored 3.

All Chelsea managers are temporary, contract or not.

We really did miss John Terry's ability to boss around his defense. I do not think we really cared about winning this match for some reason.

On a side note, as an American and a Chelsea fan I really dislike Dempsey for his move to spurs. I think spurs will struggle this year since they have gotten rid of their best players and have not really replaced them, but I am quite happy with that.

Me either - especially with City not kicking Richards or Zabaleta out the door. I would've bet on Richards, given his supposed rifts w/ Mancini (and Zabaleta is only 25 or so... I think)

Dempsey to Spurs should be immensely entertaining. Still no CL this year for him, but he has jumped up an echelon in the EPL. Playing in the hole where VdV was?

Tweet just hit that Madrid have picked up Essien from Chelsea. WHA?!?!?!?

^I have no clue why Real took him on loan. He is too injury prone and I really wonder if he will play much. I wish he could get back to player he used to be before the two injuries, but I really doubt that will ever happen.

My guess is he's counting on the Mourinho factor. He was beastly back then. Snjeider and others have continued to laud him even after they've parted ways.

Before Jose entered the picture, Real's struggles could be pinned on the loss of Makalele. That DM role was never really filled despite their attempts with several others who were not fit for the role and certainly not as good as Claude (though has there been anyone even close? He really redefined the position)

With Mamadou gone there wasn't anybody left really as a true deep lying disruptor, though sometimes Pepe was played there. I guess this is Jose really putting his stamp on the team. He has seen his control grow stronger each season, and now it looks like he's el numero uno. The only difference is the fans at Real (despite being fascists  ) actually like the sport and seeing it played elegantly, a word. That does not exist in Mourine's vocabulary. I look forwad to the jeering and whistling after 1-0 counter attacking wins.

BTW the velodrome is a fantastic atmosphere, OM is a great club, and the city is a N African colony

Having not been into the sport back then, I had to look up Makalele years ago. Beastly. What a player. I'd agree in your assessment.

    Wha?

    ...

    yes.

Have a sneaking fondness for Marseille, in spite of the it being widely accepted that they cheated Rangers out of the first champion league final. It's the only city in France that breathes football in the way the a British, Spanish or Italian supporter would recognise. Saw them play Auxerre at the Velodrome about ten years ago and would like to go again one day.
