I desperately need to replace my well worn navy blue suit, which I acquired while in Saigon in 2008. It's been beyond its useful life for at least a year, perhaps two, but I kept it in the outskirts of my rotation and opted to fill out my collection with different color variations and materials. Now's the time for something new.
Option A:
I scored a Hickey Freeman suit on their website, retail at $1,895, unfortunately due to the sale at the time the only suit in my size was their Mahogany A Series, which is HF's traditional cut suit. The suit is no longer on their website, but it is similar to the following:
http://www.hickeyfreeman.com/tailored-clothing-mahogany-collection/addison-blue-suit/
Major differences being that mine is the Astor model instead of the Addison, which seems even further on the "traditional" cut spectrum, including a double reverse pleat and a center vent.
Option B:
I have been intrigued by the Benjamin suit offering at eHaberdasher, so I ordered a blue Classico II model. Their website is rather crude, but here is the link nontheless:
http://www.ehaberdasher.com/servlet/the-16487/Benjamin-Sartorial-Suit-cln--39R-fdsh-40R/Detail
While the Benjamin line has a slightly slimmer model offering (I believe called the Napoli), the Classico II is still suppose to be a rather slim cut, certainly more slim and modern than the HF above.
Many on SF seem to rave at the quality and value proposition of the Benjamin line, but how will the Chinese-made offering compare to an almost $1,900 Hickey Freeman suit made in Rochester, NY? Certainly the cut of the suit should be my #1 priority, but I already feel myself making excuses for why I should stick with the Hickey Freeman.
I'll be sure to post some pictures as I debate moving forward, I expect one package today and the other tomorrow.
