I fail to see how that is different from a new panarai watch - which is basically a replica of a watch made 50 years ago, but that has purchased the right to use the name form the legitimate heir to the name.

if you are not interested in the movements (which I am not either, by the way) and you are not trying to sell it, then using a vintage case with a new moevement makes a lot of sense to me.

True, but you could also think of it as a piece of history - I think the watch, with the fifty years old PP case, and a new quartz (or Chinese Seagull) movement sums up the last fifty years of Vietnamese history beautifully. In a historical context, the watch tells a story that is far more interesting and dramatic than a pristine vintage PP watch could tell. It's a conversation piece. Buy it for exactly what it is.

Some of the original Panerais were by Rolex, which is what the modern Radiomir are based on.

This is it: What you guys think? I like it, as mentioned earlier, Im no watch freak, so since I like its style, I am more than happy with it....cept the strap is horrible. Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent strap for it at a decent price? I wouldnt know where to start or what to look for

It's a fake. A nice fake alligator should work well with it. Even the oldest Patek movement could be fixed and would be worth it.

I really like that watch. Most watch connoisseurs are interested in the movement of the watches and how accurately they keep time. But that happens to be a nice watch, and if the new less "authentic" movement happens to fail, than you experiment yielded a nice case and a sharp looking watch.

Fake, not fake...what difference does it really make here at the price you are paying.

I think the watch looks quite nice. You could go with an alligator strap like one of these, I think some of the more understated ones look fairly nice.
