I am just curious as to how you feel about someone in uniform smoking.

I'd be horified and try to put out the fire.

To actually answer the question, I don't really care too much unless they get near to me and stink like all smokers do.

least of my worries. nypd has been taking short and fat people for the last few years. as the grandson of a cop, and the nephew of a chief, this bothers me to no end.

why soud it bother anyone? what should bother someoen is the rate of obesity found in those roles, when physaicl conditioning is an iportant aspect of the job.

I'm not a smoker but this doesn't really bother me either. If I had to deal with even a fraction of the things they did in their lines of work, smoking would be the least of my worries.

It bothers me to some extent, and I would take it one step further to include like retail stores, and those employees wearing uniforms or name tags. Actually, now that I am typing this, those bother me more than military. But to me its the fact that when you are on the clock, or in the uniform, your representing something more than just yourself. Again, since the retail one bothers me more, its when you see 100 employees outside puffing away instead of helping people that gets me (and I used to be one of them for sure).

I doubt smoking would affect the 4'9 female NYPD officer's performance when detaining a large suspect under the influence of crystal meth.

This is a bizarre fetish, to say the least.

I'm sure ed knows the name for it.....

Seriously, I'm w/ kunk - much more bothered by short/fat/physically incompetent-looking types on the police force. I don't know the dept. regs, but you rarely see cops smoking on duty anyway. Not so for our men/women in iraq & afghanistan - i think the pressures of being in a warzone create a lot of 'new' smokers....

Only in two instances: When those in uniform begin to spontaneously smolder, or when a firefighter lights his cigarette off a building. Though I suppose the later is an excellent example of conservation of energy.
