Slimming Shirt Sleeves

Hey Guys,

Just got a couple new shirts, but I think the sleeves need to be slimmed (maybe even shortened). On average, what cost should I expect when trying to get this done?

Shirts are relatively inexpensive ($25) so I was just curious what to expect before going to a tailor.

Thanks for your input

I usually end up paying more to slim the shirts and sleeves than for my (sport) shirts. You can probably get it done for <$35.

^damn

I'm paying 18 bucks to get everything done pretty much. My tailor has been extremely busy lately..so his service is pretty laggy ;/

I typically pay $23-28USD to have my sleeves shortened and slimmed, along with taking in the sides and chest of my shirts. This is usually done if I find a shirt for cheap (<$20) that I kind of like. It keeps me under $50 total for an adequate fitting shirt.

When you guys refer to slimming the sleeves, do you mean tapering them from the seam? I had heard that making the actual armhole smaller is hard or impossible.

If taking in the sides, a tailor can continue up the seam and down the arm, slimming both the body, the sleeves, and raising the armhole as a result.

I think I understand... hard to describe without a picture. The seam at the chest when laid flat would be closer in, slimming the chest and side - then running into the curved armhole seam at a higher point... sleeve would then be slimmed from that point in order for sleeve to look right? So, you'd be opening up both the side and arm seams plus a tiny bit of the armhole seam, then stitching it all back together.
