slim fitting suits

i was in H&M and Zara this weekend and noticed that a lot of the suits seem to fit ( i didnt try them on) in a more flattering way then the typical expensive business suit. when i got fitted for a bespoke suit, one of the salesmen was young and when we were discussing the fit, he said "you dont want to look like you work at Express, right?". I know what he means, but assuming you are thin, can you get away with wearing a slim fitting suit in the business world? if so, how slim? what areas can be form-fitting and what areas should be more conservative.

Depends on your job, age, corporate culture, region, fabric, accessories, etc. Consider how slim you can go before anybody is likely to notice (I probably wouldn't go as tight as Get Smart wears his suits). And I think the general forum consensus is that tailors might be able to advise you, but don't let them dictate your style.

The notion that slim fitting =! conservative is entirely American. Look no farther than the Row for evidence of this.

I would say that appropriateness for business has more to do with things like lapel width and length than the closeness of the fit.
