If you're a well built guy, slightly on the muscular side, would slim fit be a mistake? I'm not a 95 lbs weakling and I felt that the advice on this forum had led me to look somewhat ridiculous in my tailored down, slim fit trousers and suit jackets.

I think proportionality is key and for most guys, slim fit = disaster. I also notice that designers tend to be emaciated midgets so perhaps this is the reason for the slim fit calamity seen on so many "fashion forward" people on this forum?

Slim fit on slim people.

Medium fit on medium people.

Fat fit on fat people.

Or so the Bible says, and it still ain't news.

It depends. If you have a big chest/back but small waist, you might be very muscular, but only a slim fit with some waist suppression would look good. You should only be wearing potato sacks if you have a small drop.

Obviously, if your arms are busting out of the sleeves, find a new suit maker.

Post a picture of you in your tailored down, slim fit trouser and suit jacket and we'll let you know if you look ridiculous.

Exactly.. I wouldn't classify myself as very muscular, but I have a huge chest for someone my size and with a small waist only the slimmest of shirts really look good on me. In fact, I have to get even most slim fit shirts darted in order for them to look good. I bet you if you post pics you will find that: a) You are muscular but bulky b) You look fine and are only self conscience because your poorly dressed moronic friends made a comment to you (or you live in the south).

I was out suit shopping recently and picked up a Coppley that fit on me just like a Canali. If I had the cash I would have gone with the Canali the fit was so good on my frame. The Coppley fit just is good.

I found with slim fit suits work for skinny teenage boys and David Bowie, that's it.
