Slim 7 Folds

Do slim(ish) 7 fold ties exist? All the ones I've seen are 3.75-4" wide, and so I was wondering if there are any 3.5" and under.

I would like some information if this is even feasible or even desirable given the fact that so much extra fabric is used. And if there are slim 7 folds, what knot would be the best for them, because I guess I would use 4IH like I do with other slim ties, but for some reason I would think that it would look weird.

Thanks.

3.5 might be the minimum for this. Would a slim tie in 7 fold be better with a thinner silk? I'm actually confused about whether 7-fold should or shouldn't have the wool inner?

Cheessus, Good questions: Yes, it is feasible to make an unlined 7-fold or lined 6-fold 3.5" or even narrower - we make them narrow quite often. Desirable? This completely a personal choice. Knots? Again a personal choice. Four-in-hands will work very well. Babygreenspots, Wool interlinings are almost always the best way to go. At times some gentlemen strongly prefer the look and feeling of an unlined 7-fold and that is fine. The thickness of the silk is again a personal choice. Apropos, As always the thickness is a matter of personal choice - however, as a general rule there is no problem with 7-folds having a wool interlining and most gentlemen do not realize this but often "unlined 7-folds" have a very thin layer of interlining in the knotting area.

Sam, thanks for straightening all of that out. Though it is clearly a matter of personal preference, to me a seven-fold in a thicker silk with a 2.75 width would seem a bit odd.

Btw, I was in Shengzhou last week, and they say they have been making seven folds in increasing quantities over last year. It's funny to see poly, or very low quality silk, seven folds.

Babygreenspots,

The Chinese had beautiful silk a long time ago so it is only a matter of time till they do again.

My Rubinacci seven-folds are unlined and 3 inches wide. The standard ones they sell are 3.25-3.5 inches wide, I think--but definitely not even close to 4.
