The first skyscrapers? Anyway, I love Ancient Egyptian architecture, even if it was created by illegal aliens.

Probably one of the more interesting buildings architechturally in Hartford. Home of Phoenix Insurance.

The CN tower doesn't count as a skyscraper because it's not really a building but a free-standing structure - the world's tallest (for now) I might add.

BTW, here is a better pic of it:

Both the Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai and the Twin Towers at KL (designed by SOM's San Francisco office) are great interpretations of local traditional elements. The Taipei 101 could be used as an example for "lack of creativity" in wikipedia.

Indeed. You can really see the support that goes into it to keep it firmly planted on the base.

The Montreal Casino - she looks like a lady. Built for the '67 World Expo, by France if i'm not mistaken.

The Sun Life building is probably one of the most imposing buildings that I have ever seen. Started in 1913, finished in '31 - "the Sun Life Building was at the time the largest building in terms of square footage anywhere in the British Empire. " It is finished in white stones and has multiple balconies

Indeed, it was the French pavillion for Expo and then the Museum of Civilization before the Casino. Aside from parts of it's outer structure, it looks nothing like it did before. It was probably the nicest Expo pavillion. The US was impressive too but not as refined as this one.

Love it. Try and post a recent color pic. Or better yet, take one yourself and post it.

It's OK I guess. Used to be a vacant lot (and the old York theatre on the East side) where I would conduct illicit transactions when I lived right behind on Mackay.
