I have a pair of derbies and a pair of oxfords on the S-last, and a pair of chukkas on the T-last, all in UK 9.5.

I find the S-last to be the more balanced: a wee bit narrow in the toe box, but not painfully so, and the classic round shape just seem to work with my difficult feet (low instep, almost flat, hallux valgus etc - abominations!).

The almondish T-last has more wiggle room in the toe box, but is more narrow over the ball than the S-last. A sleeker last, at least for me. Heel... The chukkas (T) and the oxfords (S) are more "cupped" in the heels and fit good but not tight, and about the same size wise. The derby heel (S) fits more loose and I need heel grips for that pair.

The instep is about the same for both the derby and the boot (I use suede tongue pads from Skolyx, they're great).

Hope that's useful!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
