    Roger,

Have you tried the 946 in a "G" width?

Also, I just figured out that my 946 boots took about 10 wearings to break in properly. Now, they literally feel like house shoes that are boots.

I wore them the other night and was staggered by the comfort. Could I still use the "H" width?

Yes, but these have broken in exceptionally well.

I haven't tried a G width. I'm concerned that the heel is already plenty wide in standard with on this last.

In a tall boot, a UK9 fits me okay in 946, though it is a touch long. I had such a pair. I worry that in a shoe or even a chukka, heel slip might be a problem. That's okay though. I can see another 946 tall boot in my future.

    Right, perhaps a 946 in UK 8.5 "G" then?

    Thanks.

There's still the potential - if not likely - problem of a sloppy heel fit going up in width in a UK 8.5 976. That size works fine for me in both 363MOD and 74945 in standard width.

Generally, I think if a last just doesn't work for you, it's best not to try TOO hard to get a square peg into a round hole. Different lasts are offered for the very reason that people have very differently shaped feet, so they won't all work for any given pair of feet. (And yes, I know you know this.)

Something like the pair below would be on the shot list for a future 946 boot.

Words of wisdom Roger, I learned this too. If the last is wrong for your feet it is best to stay away from that last.

    @RogerP

I totally get it. Nice norvegese boot by the way. There is also this 062 last that I have heard about.

My whole thing is that you find satisfaction is whatsoever last you choose.

    Thanks.

That is very true. Certain lasts work well for certain foot shapes and so,e people just can not wear some lasts due to their shape, even if the width and length are adjusted slightly.

In the end you need to get the length that has the proper heel to ball length that matches up with the shoe. Then you can try to adjust width a bit if needed. But if that isn't enough to make it work, that just means that the last isn't for you.

I ended up fraying the laces on the speed hooks on these fellas before I learnt how to work my boots correctly.

Any suggestions for where to get decent dress boot laces on the internet?

    (EU/UK preferred!)

Which GMTO was this? I'm hoping it completed around the time of the brown split toe blucher GMTO because that could mean we'll be getting our notifications soon!

This was the brown suede quarter brogue oxford with plain toe that Darkside organized (his "OneShoe"). I think we wrapped it up in August.
