Thanks mate. Been looking at them recently. Explains the pricing too..
PSA for my larger-footed brethren - two last pair Bonafe boots for damn near AE money:
The pain of being a UK 13 is real man. MTO for life I guess.
On the other hand, you probably would get the best level of comfort since they're MTO!
After much deliberation, decided to purchase my very first Carmina from Skoak, the classic dark brown wingtip on the Rain last. It was either this or the EG equivealent but wallet was protesting. Image below taken from Skoak's website (hopefully they're OK with it).
Excited times ahead with multiple fingers crossed that the sizing really works out. I sized down half due to the Rain's supposedly generous dimensions. If it doesn't work out, sending it back would cost a nice wad of cash (being in Oz) but hopefully, not..
Quote:Those Grain Jumpers are extremely tempting. There's only a couple of problems.
I'm not sure whether I would have to size down by a half or a full size, and I already have more than a few grain boots . They sure are tempting however.
Yowzer, what other sizes for you wear?
I have the exactly same shoe in shell cordovan in rain last, I wore my normal size comparing to CJ, AS and Loakes, half a size down from EG and GG.
10.5UK F usually but the Skoak experts suggested I size down to 10UK for the Rain. The Rain from my SF research is a generous last and quite similar to Loake's Capital (which I wear a 10.5UK and could be more 'snug'). How does the cordovan feel? I've only had experience with calf so far.
Edit: the Rain is a EE width in Carmina-speak I believe - which equals to a wide I think and would suit a high instep foot. My instep's pretty normal and most of my laces close nicely on standard widths. Which to my mind, makes sense to downsize.
Fair enough for sizing. Cordovan is very solid and warm, cool to have as an one off shoe; but calf is more versatile.
However, the truth remains to be seen. The joys of online purchasing.. always an element of risk. If I ever get an EG, I'll probably head to Double Monk in Melbourne and just suck it up on retail pricing.
Anyway, I digress. Don't suppose you size down for the Rain? How does it feel/fit compare to say the AS 724 that we both know?
I haven't wore the AS 724 for a long time, I will wear it tomorrow to compare.
Too many shoes wurger! And only two feet!
For me I take the same size in 724 and Rain EE.
Thank you laufer. Does the 724 fit 'tighter' at all? Which has the roomier toebox?
For me 724 is slightly roomier in toebox.
I recently placed my first order with Skoaktiebolaget. It's been a few years since I last purchased a pair of Carminas, so I'm excited to see how these turn out.
One question I'm a little curious about as I'm thinking of placing another order once I see how the fit of this last (Forest) works out...
For Carminas that were in stock before the price changes at the end of February, what changed exactly? For example, were base Carmina models 2,800 SEK and now they're 2,880 SEK? This is just a curiosity thing for me (10 USD isn't any sort of deal breaker for me). Thanks.
