A new color for Carmina, or a new color that the universe has never seen? Either way, I'm excited and my wallet is going back to its therapist.

Technically a Plain Toe Balmoral is more conservative than a cap toe oxford.

Are you referring to any of the stock you are receiving this weekend? I am close to purchasing the suede bal boot from leatherfoot, but would be open to looking at other things if they are coming in soon (this weekend). With the recent rain in San Francisco, I'm looking for a non-leather sole.

I didn't know that. What are the historic reasons behind that?

With that post, I was mainly referring to the coming spring season.

Incoming styles that will be available from Friday:

We are also launching three new Edward Green styles within a few days:
    • Edward Green Shannon VIII in Dark Oak
    • Edward Green Laughton in Nightshade
    • Edward Green Newbury in Black calf

....and last but not least some new Bonafé styles, also within the next week or so:

    • Enzo Bonafé Norvegese Wingtip Derby in Etrusco Calf (new style, limited)
    • Enzo Bonafé Norvegese Wingtip Derby in Black Calf (new style, limited)
    • Enzo Bonafé Norvegese plain toe Derby in Castagna Betis Calf (new style, limited)
    • Enzo Bonafé Monkey Boot in Melezze Calf (very dark brown calf)

...so plenty of reasons to stay tuned to this page and our website.

A balmoral (closed lacing) is always more formal than a blucher (open lacing).
I don't have the historic reference, but it is commonly assumed here in on SF.

... North American terminology. In Europe, and on our website, these styles are most often referred to as Oxford (closed lacing) or Derby (open lacing).

Derby patent leather shoes are common and accepted at formal attire functions (white tie). But in general, yes, an Oxford would be considered more formal. But we are talking dress codes here that are being seriously questioned and challenged (good or bad, you decide).
