Good point. I have a real problem with wearing the proper pants for the shoe and vice versa. I think some pant cuts don't drape well. Jeans with large leg openings suck for wearing shoes like Vans, Chucks, and other slip-ons because the pants drag. It's really annoying.

About the grey suede shoes- The Corpus FW07 look book used opening ceremony grey suede desert boots (I think). I know you don't have the boots, but you could still reference the colors I suppose.

I don't like the look of my New Standards with oxfords, especially ones with longer lasts. I think typically dress shoes look best with the laces partially covered, and the tapered leg hole on the NS just reveals way too much shoe, making your feet look big and awkward.

Paradoxically my least dressy jeans (bootcut, long, lots of stacking) look better with dress shoes than my dressier ones.

It depends on your waist size, because this will have a big impact on the hem size for a given cut of jean (tapered vs. straight vs. bootcut). In my opinion hems under 7.5" -- which are common in tapered jeans in a 30 or smaller waist size -- don't tend to look good with any shoes except possibly Chucks. If you want to wear jeans with dress shoes -- for example, somewhat chunky AE brogues -- I'd suggest looking for a hem of 7.5-8" (or maybe even 8.5", depending your foot size). That may mean a taper or a straight cut depending on your waist size.

Some guys do manage to pull off the tiny-hem-floating-atop-dress-shoes look, but it's no good for most of us. Especially if you're of average height or shorter, your feet will end up looking big and awkward, and too much attention will be drawn to your ankles.

I really want a pair of leather shoes to go with some Nudie Slim Jims I got. More in the style of some of those english indie rock bands eg. the horrors, the last shadow puppets, cajun dance party etc etc. Im having trouble finding that sort of style. Any suggestions?

i do this all the time- these are my slim jims with a paul smith boot, people often comment on the look. i think the boot/shoe must be suitably distressed or worn in to work with jeans in the way you're talking about, paul smith and ndc seem to have this look down.

i wear new cures and dior mij 19cm with brown suede voss oxfords and CP blacdk dress shoes and they look good. i'm getting kind of burnt on the skinny jeans/high top thing so it's a good alternative.

I think the only reason I'd comment is that you are, um, wearing only one boot. But the one boot does look good.
