I've had my eye on these watches for over a year, and recently picked one up. Does anyone else own one? I really dig the metal mesh band.

I have one. Relatively thin, rubber strap. Never wear it anymore.

Their thinner models (the only ones worth having IMO) are quite fragile.

I used to own a Skaagen and I can confirm their fragility. They are nice-looking watches, but the one I owned had a glass face; it developed a crack and shattered after less than a year's worth of use. If the face had been sapphire crystal, which is much harder, I doubt this would have happened.

If Skaagen offers watches with a sapphire crystal face, opt for those ones.

I had one once, and after a month or two of not-very-demanding wear pieces started falling off.

i didn't realize that. do you know of any other brands that also use a thin mesh band that are a little more durable?

I wore my steel Skagen (mesh band) almost daily for about four years and it still works great. Perhaps the titanium models are more fragile.

I have a black face, titanium case, black rubber band Skagen and it is very durable. I think the look is great for a cheap watch. I do get a fair amount of comments on it (paid $45).

FYI - Sapphire crystal will actually break more easily than a mineral crystal (speaking in relative terms here; both are quite difficult to break). The advantage that sapphire offers is superior scrath resistance as compared to mineral crystal.

That said, perhaps Skagen was using some sort of really cheap face.

the back of mine says it has a mineral crystal face. i've put it in a few situations where i was worried it would get scratched and it's held up pretty good.

I have this one, but with the gunmetal face (though I plan to get the white as well). And yes, the crystal cracked and I had to have it replaced, but at $40 for the watch, that's ok. I liked the style, and I really enjoy how comfortable the band is. I truly dislike metal lug bands, so this is as close as I'll get to that.

i have the gunmetal one as well, though mine was ~$100. the band was the selling point for me also. metal lug bands always catch my arm hairs.

I have a steel one with a link band and it works great after ~4 years. Get tons of compliments on it.

Needed a thin watch because of my thin wrists. Very happy with the cheap purchase until I graduate law school and can afford to upgrade.
