These recommendations have been weak.

My picks of the mid 90s: Skankin' Pickle, My Super Hero, Jeffries' Fan Club, Buck-o-Nine.

As far as classics, how the **** have Fishbone and Madness NOT been mentioned yet? Fishbone was huge with "Skankin' To the Beat". And Madness...well, hell. MADNESS.

I hate to tell you this turdball, but the first concert I ever went to was Fishbone back in '84 or '85

Your "respect" stock just rose in my book. Greatly, I might add.

um..Mr Turdball (as Matt so lovingly refers to you).....if you look at post #2 and #9 you'll see MADNESS rec's It's kinda hard to classify Fishbone (as well as The Untouchables) as "ska" per se since their ska period was so short, going funk as most ska bands did by the late 80s. I used to have No Doubts 4 song cassette demo in 1987 (?) and they sounded nothing like they did when their first record finally dropped, having also gone into a funk style. Here is the correct list of recommendations for GOOD SKA: 60s era -Skatalites "Foundation" -Symarip "Skinhead Moonstomp" -Desmond Dekkar & The Aces best of -Prince Buster best of -Jackie Mitoo & Soul Brothers 'Train to Skaville' 2Tone -Specials s/t -Selecter "Too Much Pressure" -Bad Manners "Live and Loud" (sort of a best of early tracks) -The Beat "Cant Stop it" -Dance Craze soundtrack -Madness "One Step Beyond" (altho "the Lot" boxset is essential) 80s -The Toasters "Skaboom" and "Thrill Me Up" -The Deltones "Nana Choc Choc in Paris" -The Busters "Ruder than Rude" -The Riffs "Who Wants It" -Judge Dread "Best worst of collection" -Mr Review "One Way Ticket to Skaville best of" -No Sports "King Ska" -Casino Royale s/t -Lets Go Bowling "Music to Bowl by" & "Mr Twist" -Donkey Show "Bali Island" 90s anything by French band Skarface. Otherwise there was no good ska in the 90s

"One Step Beyond"? ****, that's like recommending the Beatles for "I Wanna Hold Your Hand." So much more than that.

i remember getting puked on at a bowling alley in the mid90's when ska was all the rage. the guy didn't apologise, i was maybe 11 or 12. I was pretty sure i hated ska ... then i started middle school and somehow managed to get into it. i think it had to do with this girl i had a crush on, but yeah.

that was probably wayyyy off topic but

Certainly not my first concert - but I did see Fishbone open for Jimmy Cliff in around '87 or '88. I went to see Fishbone and hung around for JC - but it was rather an odd bill. What fool picks Fishbone for an opening act? They blew the roof off the place.

Yes, they seemed to be a rather short -lived mutation.
