I've been eyeing a nice jacket that's available in a 36. After measurements, it turns out the shoulders are 18 3/4". Is it just me, or is this extra-wide for a size 36? It's a heavy cashmere, if that helps.

That sounds like a 38-40 IMHO

If you really like the jacket, confirm with the seller how they measured the shoulder width. Maybe they mistakenly measured to the outer edge of the sleeve and not seam to seam. That might make it 18". Worth a try.
Otherwise it seems an exagerated style. It would be possible, but expensive, to remove the sleeves to narrow the point to point measure.
