This is primarily a women's web site, but the question got me thinking:

http://jezebel.com/5733078/can-you-w...-items-or-less

My list:

Navy blue suit (with removable brass button covers for double duty as a blazer)
Charcoal gray suit
White shirt
Blue shirt
Light pink shirt
Chinos

Since "accessories" don't count, that leaves a lot of room for shoes, ties, over coats, etc.

Could SF members wear six items or fewer for a month? What would they be?

Probably easier with mens clothing than womens. I certainly could, but I would prefer not to. Your list is okay, certainly, but not for a cold weather climate. For my current life in college, without need for any real formal clothing:

Jeans- faded but still dark blue
Chinos - I prefer stone as a standby color
White pinpoints - Pinpoint becuase it dresses up easily if need be.
Blue pinpoints- same, and variety..
Gray medium weight wool sweater- I have an LL bean one with lighter gray/black woven together that goes with literally everything.
Tweed Jacket

Pretty easy to think of a way to do that, especially without outerwear considered.

You're wearing one shirt for a month?

TwoTone picked two suits so he can count four items as two.

They said you could buy multiples of the same shirt, but different colors would count against you.

My real life experiment with minimal clothes for extended wear was my version of "The Motorcycle Diaries." Between under grad and grad school I took a year off, bought a new Moto Guzzi in Rome and traveled most of Europe for seven months. Half of my motorcycle bags were for my photo equipment (back in the good old film days) not leaving much for clothes. Bike wear consisted of the usual -- leather jacket, pants, gloves, boots, helmet, etc. My "dress" wardrobe was a blazer, Dockers, a couple of shirts, one tie and decent shoes. That was of course when I was in my 20's and way before SF. Nor did I have to dress for business meetings.

What's the longest trip you took with a minimal amount of clothes?

Yeah, the first thing I thought of was having to do laundry every day!

I'd have to go with:

2 OCBDs
1 chino
1 gray office pants
1 navy jacket / blazer
1 light gray sweater

Twotone, you can click on "edit" then "go advanced" to fix the title.

2 week canoing trip. 2 sets of clothes- wet for out on the water, dry for wearing in camp. I had a short sleeve and a long sleeve wicking tee for the wet set, only the short sleeve got worn, a pair of pants for each, and a camp shirt for wearing in camp. Two pairs of socks, two pairs of underwear. One hat. One pair of jungle boots, one pair of sneakers.

1 x Dark Jeans
4 x Polo Shirts
5 x White Shirts
1 x Blue Suit
1 x Grey Suit
1 x Charcoal pullover.

I reckon that would cover my 7 day week. I would get bored quickly but I could happily survive for 6 months with that lot.

This is just a first draft, and after some more thought I may revise this, but in the winter:

-Charcoal suit
-Dark blue jeans
-Light blue dress shirt
-Light blue OCBD (maybe ecru)
-Camel V-neck sweater
-Heather gray crew neck sweatshirt

In the summer, swap out the sweater and sweatshirt for:

-White polo
-Heather gray short-sleeved T-shirt
