i'm with the cold one. but it's not an sf problem but internet-wide. it's something we deal with daily where i work ... read the comments at the end of most newspaper stories and it makes CE look like romper room. as someone who has written for a living all my life, under a byline, it would never occur to me to post something in a public place that i wouldn't want to be associated with. actually that's probably the only thing that keeps me that keeps me from being a raging *sshole. (or even more of one).

Don't ever read the tabloids in England if you love impartial well-sourced information..

Ah, but we do have These are real, right? (The all-natural, fakes-backlash, God-sculpted thread) NSFW.

This is, without a doubt, the most fucktarded justification I have ever seen for enforcing a ban in my life.  If he made a new account to circumvent his ban, and then returned to the same abusive misbehavior he was banned for, this would be an absolutely reasonable reaction.  Instead, because some poster with sway got butthurt over a stupid conversation about a TV show in which some childish insults were exchanged, you "realized this", and now an otherwise excellent contributor is banned and not returning to the site.  I don't know if any of you mods ever visit or give two ***** about the thrift store bragging thread (you know, one of the largest and most popular threads on this site), but Valium/Frenchy/Frenchytoo was, without a doubt, one of the best (if not THE best) consistent contributor of amazing finds to that thread in recent memory.  He added immense value to that thread and to the overall site on balance (even considering his penchant for boorish language), that for the banhammer to be so flagrantly abused by both the mod and the complaining poster over a trivial personal grievance is pathetic and shameful.

Don't get things twisted. Frenchy was banned, not timed out, for racist comments, a while ago. I'm not sure how he misunderstood this. If you come back after you are banned, you are already in contravention of all the rules of the forum, and the only reason you are still around is because we exercised our perogative to show some leniency. We were getting increasing numbers of complaints (not from Piobaire, btw) about Frenchytoo, and we aren't going to go out of our way to protect people who have been tossed already, and especially for being particularly offensive. So, the decision to ban him again was a pretty easy call.

Also, j, the founder of the site and the head admin, started the thrift brag thread, and it was his baby for a long time. Just fyi.

Wait one damn minute. This guy claims to "write" for a living, but can't find the shift key. What a turkey head.

SPAM -

Roofing contractor spamming in General Chat.

Doesn't he know that 94 percent of SFers live in condos?

Alas, I turn into a pumpkin on SF at midnight tonight.
I gave the windmill a good go, but it didn't work.
Sleep well, you bozos.

Sorry this is so late, but I was going to reread the Coherent Combinations for Beginners thread and couldn't access it. Then saw that Cobera's posts had the dreaded static avatar that Vox's do. Had to scan back through this thread to figure out what happened.

****!!!!

Was Vox offered a "Dubious Honored" title? Those powers were actually one of the things he suggested.

It's hard to express how sad it is to have Vox gone. I learned so much from his posts. Not just his posts in WAYWRN or the threads he started with his own pictures (Coherent Combinations, construction of ties, ect) or the Subjective And Totally Unfair Digests, but also the knowledge he would contribute to other threads.

There are 2 criteria for entry into the group. The first is that we feel that the members have made and are making good contributions to the forum. The second is that they serve as good examples and role models within the community and that I could trust to not abuse their mod like privileges (in other words, they would not delete posts that merely piss them off, or that they find ignorant or belligerent, etc... only posts that actively derail the conversation, etc... Both criteria are of equal value to us. Note that they do not have to agree with me on all topics, including topics about the direction of the forum.

To me, what he contributed in the past and still would contribute in the future is worth far, far more than the new content (front page, styleforum101) have to pay to be developed (Of couse not including the return of Manton, Foo, Doc, ect- that has been awesome). Whatever we can do to keep this level of poster active in MC should be done. If acknowledging his concerns and making a concession to him that he requested would keep him here, isn't that worth it.?

As an aside, does anyone have a copy saved of Coherent Combinations? I actually thought to myself- maybe I should save this onto the hard drive just in case he deletes all this and puts a period in instead.

i write for money. shift key gets time-and-a-half. considering the exorbitant rates i'm already being paid here, i'll leave it to the mods to decide whether it's worth the extra.
