Don't know how you can miss Javyn's trolling. He isn't subtle and he points out repeatedly that he is trolling and un-subtle. Also, how the hell do you find Nameback a decent poster?

Senor Carlos be trolling too, homeboy.

    Which one was that.

    This.

Nameback makes informed, reasoned, and nuanced arguments. You can disagree with his politics, but he is by no means a bad poster. This is indicative of CE's conservative bent. Anyone who leans left is immediately dismissed as a troll, asshole or idiot.

This is not a correct characterization. Everyone from me to Matt engaged NB on a pretty sincere level for quite some time. We then went through a bad period and now the interaction seems to be back to a more polite and forthwright posting. He is at least interesting and does give things some thought.

Where things break down, usually, is that left leaning posters eventually seem to rely on some sort of moral argument for justifying their economics. When you have people that understand economics like Matt, Ron, and Manton, that's just not going to fly.

Let's drag this out of trans-mod (again) and you can tell me what my schtick is in the tread I started.

No, it really isn't. There are plenty of left leaning posters who are not treated that way, just as there are plenty of right leaning posters treated as complete cranks, and most of them deserve it. The problem with NameBack is that he seemingly doesn't know anything at all on anything but a very surface level, but he drops theories like the most striving of housewives at her first charity gala drops names. That isn't to say that he isn't bright, he probably is, but there are a lot of people falling into the trap of thinking that if you use impenetrable language, you have some deep understanding of a subject. To be bi-partisan, and bi-winning, another poster who does this is tagutcow (sorry, dude.) I don't know why they do, though I have my own theories, but eventually they are making very simple points, often sorts of common wisdumb, and attempting to dress them up in academic language. Frankly, the inability to use language appropriate for the given setting should be a clue to you how little they understand what they are saying. They can't translate. Sorry for offending anybody, but if we are going to be serious, we might as well be honest as well.

No comment on Nameback, but when I was first posting in CE, I said something about increasing income inequality being a negative factor in America. I got swarmed, dismissed as an idiot, asked for "evidence" to support a commonly accepted fact, etc, etc. I just posted a few articles and let the whole thing die, was obvious that a part of the crowd was not going to accept discussion on that and it's beyond my expertise to push it on a technical basis. A few people did have interesting points and wanted to talk about them, but it's hard to talk over the hostile fraction.

By contrast, in the recent thread on the debt, Manton said quite nearly the same thing. It was accepted without negative comment or even any argumentative dissent, although some people noted they were surprised to hear him say it.

That particular topic wasn't on the "allowed discussion list" until it was broached by a senior and respected member. There are others like it, I'm sure. Bring up one and you get mobbed, regardless of the quality of your argument. Said topics are almost always "liberal talking points", I have yet to see any conservative viewpoints that get instantly repressed in such a manner.

wasn't serious, you just left me out of the recently-departed list so i cried a bit

i read certain threads still and i think honestly my absence has lead to more smooth discussions on issues not related to foreign policy (where there are still lot of [IMG] arguments). i attempted to instigate via javyn and the wikileaks but he troll-PMed me back so it wasn't successful !

If you have a substantive claim to make, provide warrants for said claim and make it substantive. Without anything substantive to say, and without any warrants, all I submit that your argument has not been as logical, substantiated, warranted or supported as the one I put forth in this very post.

You think that 'classically liberal' economic theory isn't underpinned by particular moral viewpoints? How naive.

Who gives a shit you dumbasses. Liberal socialism is where it's at. Lots of vacation time and not a lot of work, plus lots of sipping coffee in cafes and sleeping with whores and writing short novels about it. That's the life. Anything else is dreck.

    The End.
