Is anyone else disturbed by the continuing calls to ban someone just because they say something that upsets you? I think what AF said was pretty disgusting, but I think there ought to be a modicum of free speech here. Just because he states an opinion you don't like shouldn't be a reason for banning. I pretty much felt the same way about some of the calls for AThingforCashmere and some of the others. Shame on me for not speaking up then, but I'll speak up now. IMO AF should be (and has been) pretty well excoriated for what he said by everyone on the forum, but should not be banned. Not to say that there shouldn't be standards...I just don't think we should draw the line at offensive opinions. Free speech and all that. You've made the common mistake of thinking that free speech is something we prize here. This is not a democracy. This is a neighborhood bar. If you go into your local pub, there are gonna be guys shooting the shit and opining about all sorts of stuff that they don't know jack about and arguing with each other (that's CE). However, the Constitution of the Unites States is not going to save you from getting tossed out on your ass if you cross certain lines. Some posters have been tossed out for outright racism. While the KKK is allowed to hold rallies, we don't allow it's members to hold their after rally party here. AThing was tossed out for the e-quivalent of breaking a bottle and challenging other patrons to mortal combat. Fran has been timed out for insisting that he be allowed to use the word n*****, although he knew well that he most certain was not allowed to here, and had been told as much by the proprietor and bartenders. I'm not going to ban him (j has the option, but I don't think that he will either), based on this incident, but at some point, if he continues not to be able to play nicely with others, he'll be told to quit the establishment.
