Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill: atypical shots of the most important half English, half American man in history...in so many ways, a part of the transformation into modernity.

And the photograph that for me, not from LIFE, that captures him perfectly in a way that the well known tommy gun photograph does not:

For those of you who aren't Brits and do not know too much about Churchill, here is his family home.

I think it would be more accurate to call Chartwell his family home.

Churchill spent much of his retirement at his home Chartwell in Kent. He purchased it in 1922 after his daughter Mary was born.

Just a quick question, how do I post a picture right into my thread, instead of as an attachment?

It seems safe to say that he was quite elegant.

Blenheim was Churchill's grandfather's home, then his uncle's, then his first cousin's. Churchill was born there, but lived there only briefly, as I recall.

The entire place is just one huge foyer.

Was the cutaway frock coat a special occasion suit at that point, or was it something one did day-to-day business in?

Also, are those zippers on his shoes? (seated photo with top hat and cane)

Churchill wore a frock coat to parliament into the 1950s, well after the point at which it had fallen out of everyday use.
