Sir Elton's Closet or RJ Man Heaven

The man may have singlehandedly kept Richard James' business going . . . loads of Richard James custom-made suits and shirts at the Elton John wardrobe sale at Rockefeller Center. Passed by on the way to work this morning.

Sir Elton must look very funny in person. Size 44 suits, size 16 and 17 shirts, and size 8 shoes. I am assuming the suits were custom made: heavy patterned flannel suit jackets with solid-bright color velvet collars and hacking pockets as far as the eye could see.

Also a lot of Versace and Gucci. Worth the trip just for laughs when one considers it all comes from a man's wardrobe, and not necessarily his stagewear

Fun trivia I read in an EJ interview: RJ's nickname is Gandhi, because when he hangs out at Elton's summer home in Nice, he devotes himself all day to getting really really tan.

Great nickname, especially since we all know that Gandhi's primary focus in life was having an appropriately bronzed physique.

I saw Elton John on the Today show and Matt Lauer pointed to a whole rack of RJ. He pulled a bright paisley sportcoat (suitcoat?) off the rack. I, of course, thought of the connection between Elton John and our own RJMan...

A couple of months ago I caught a glimpse Sir E jetting about with his then fiancee in Highgate Village, wearing a rather nondescript DUFFER-style zip up hoodie. I guess the old fella doesn't like drawing attention to himself when he's not promoting his persona.

I had the same reaction, until you open the coat and see the pants on the hangar. The jackets were wild enough, but knowing they had matching pants was just too much to believe.

It was as if Harris Tweed commissioned Mr. Ferley to design a line of heavy-weight scottish tweed leisure suits
