Single Pleats ok?

I am a slim 5'8'' size 38. All of my suits are slim fitting with flat front trousers.

Given my age (43) and job (lawyer at conservative firm), I am thinking maybe its time to mix it up a bit. However, I would still like to look as stylish as possible.

At the risk of sound stupid, are single pleat trousers "in" in 2010 and are they ok for slim guys? I am eyeing a beautiful 2 button slim lanvin suit but the trousers are single pleat which is putting me in this dilemma.

There is nothing wrong with single pleats. I have my eye out for a pair to accompany all the flat front pants I own.

Single pleats don't appeal to me. Too half-way. Double or go home.

I'll wear single pleats, but not double.

I knew it was a stupid question. Does it simply come down to a matter of personal preference?

No. It is a matter of forvm vote, democratically constituted and ratified by a quorum of Inner Circle members.

All results, however, can be vetoed by Despos.

He vetoed my suggestion of single pleat on the suit he made for me.

You can thank me later.

OP, it is personal preference but also what works best for your body type. I see too many flat fronts that have so little cloth on the fronts, they fit and look like jeans and render a suit inelegant. On the other side, pleats need to be cut and fitted correctly to hang properly and thus flatter you. Some trousers are cut in a way to work best for your body type, be they plain or pleated. Find the cuts and makers that work for you and stick with them.
Final decision rests with what you like best.

I have pants with no, single, and double pleats. I prefer double pleated pants but nothing to me is a deal breaker

I'll thank you now and buy you a beer later. When are you back in Dallas? Call me if you need a distraction. Is the new studio open? I'd like to come by and see it.

I prefer single pleat. Flat front seems to be too modern. Single plead goes down to make the front crease of the dress pants. I like that continuation.

I love single pleats, and I'd wear more if I could find them OTR in a fit that suits me. For me they have to be inward facing, as is the way I prefer with any pleats. Many of the English brands sell this style, and it's especially popular on Savile Row these days. They look a lot cleaner than double pleats, but they need to fit well or they'll look terrible.
