so i recently raided my brothers closet and found a pair of brand new shirts that he never wears, which i gladly took off his hands. i guess the reason he never wore them is because they are both french cuffed and he never has the opportunity to wear them nor does he have any slick links to pair with them. i've never been the biggest fan of double cuffs (see below) but i liked the colors, patterns, textures, and the fit and i figured i could maybe get them altered or something for a nominal fee.

I know a lot of you are wondering why i would ruin perfectly good french cuffs, but to be honest, i don't really wear jackets that often, and when i do, i find that all that material near my wrist is just uncomfortable...i do, however like cuff links, so i was thinking rather than coverting to barrels i would just make them single cuffs so i could still show off some of my links. on a scale of 1-10, how hard is the single cuff with links to pull off (no jacket, sweater on occasion)?

The second shirt i got has sleeves that are ever so short, 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch or so...do you think i could just have it converted into a wide barrel cuff with two buttons? also in writing this i had a strange idea, of having this wide cuff fastened like you would a french or italian cuff (perhaps by some small sterling studs or knots...small and simple) i think it would be different, but do you think it could work or would it look ghastly?

I do convertible cuffs (single cuffs with the option to wear buttoned or with links) on all of my shirts and love having the ability to wear it either way. To me it's a little less formal than a full french cuff and can be pulled off without a jacket. However, I don't know how successfully you could convert a french cuff to a single - I'm sure it could be done, it's just a matter of how much you'd be willing to pay for it.

figured out what to do with one of them...cut away some material from both side of the outside part of the double cuff and added to extra button holes...kind like a cocktail cuff but fastened with three buttons or studs. leave out the distal one (furthest down the sleeve). it actually looks kind of unique and eclectic enough to be worn casually...with jeans. The other shirt is checked with multicolors, so i'm just gonna go with a regular barrel cuff on it...i think the pattern is enough on the cuff with or without a jacket...if you add links or anything flashy to it, it'll start looking like my closet threw up on me. what i've learned reading these boards the last couple days is simplicity is best
