Looking for some recommendations for the few free hours I'm not working or at four floors (kidding on that last part).

I know watch shopping is basically a national sport but any #menswear or menswear stores or tailors worth checking out?

Also, if anyone's interested in a SF / Spore get-together anytime in the next two weeks, let me know.

Cantabrigian -- am based in Singapore for work now and unfortunately, there isn't much to be found in Singapore that you can't get at better prices in London or NY.

The times I do shop, I do that at Vanda FIne Clothing, which I think is a must-visit. It's like a tie-mecca of a sartorial pilgrimage.

Worth visiting is RSK at Textile Center. They have a lot of crappy Polyester-blend wools, but they have a myriad of shirtings (unbranded) that are decent and cheap. These are not your Alumos, and Testas or Godards (lol), but then again, they're sub 25 USD/M

I've spent most of my time bespeaking odd trousers here. They cost in the region of 120 USD (CMT) and I've been lucky enough to get one who cuts a good trousers. No Ambrosi-level handwork but at 120 USD ...

It's so reasonably priced (relative to what I've been paying in London) that it's addictive.

Thanks, bbdc.

I'm all set for trousers but those do look quite well cut.

Guess it's back to my original plan of cycling around the island on Sat rather than windowshopping.

Yes, they're cut quite full. I prefer a wider and looser fit for comfort, plus I have prominent calves and small thighs so it's hard to get a good fit otherwise.

I'd take to cycling if I were you. Cycling in SG isn't like cycling in London where they have dedicated cycling lanes so cycle around the island at your peril.

I suggest eating at the local food at the hawker stalls. Great food and much safer from food poisoning than the rest of Southeast Asia. I'm sure people here can give you recommendations.

Thanks, po'sod. Last time I was there I didn't have great luck w/ the food despite the fact that it was a bid-niz dinner every night.

Honestly the best meal I had was probably in Geylang. My first night there they assigned the intern to take me out and I guess that dude was from the wrong side of the tracks or something.

I'm sitting on the sidewalk in June, in a suit, sweating bullets as the 'locals' tried to get my attention.

But the softshelled crab was great. Was a little too warm for the frogleg porridge but it was good to try all the same.
