Anyone else out there see Sin City?

I went, primarily because of the trailer that featured a clip of Jessica Alba.

I really liked the movie.

Very stylized, very comic book, and quite intense.

I'm really starting to like Bruce Willis more and more. Even though he doesn't display a lot of diversity in his roles, he's got the role of the hard-bitten tough guy with a heart of gold pretty much down pat.

Of course it's comic book; it's based on a Frank Miller graphic novel (he did the Dark Knight series, fabulous stuff).

Does it seem strange to anyone else that a bunch of grown men get together to discuss the merits of fine clothing and the like, and end up posting about comic books, and the movies that derive (or blatantly steal) from comic books? I guess it just goes to show you that Comics (and video games.) aren't really for kids anymore.

Just a random thought. Anyone playing any video games right now?

WESOME movie. have been a huge fan of the comics and i remember hearing about this being made into a movie several years ago so how stoked was i to see it finally realized?.

the movie follows the comics nearly scene for scene, word for word. the most faithful translation of a comic into a movie that has been made so far. the casting was amazing, for the most part. nearly everybody looked just like their comic alter ego, even down to the lesser characters who dont have as much screen time.

i was one of the few i know of who actually liked Sky Captain, and Sin City takes that bluescreen technique to its fullest but also has the added luxury of a GOOD script. i hope that this doesnt open a floodgate of films shot against bluescreen because in the wrong hands it could be a real disaster with all style, no substance. but for a film that evokes vintage/noir imagery/style, the bluescreen can be a hella effective way to film it.

gotta see this again.

Going with the group here. I've always had a place in my heart for film noir. I loved the comic and I loved the movie. I have to see it again. I've heard an interview where Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez said they'd like to do the other Sin City stories as movies and I, for one, can't wait until they do.

Rodriguez' best film since From Dusk Till Dawn, and perhaps his best ever. It was amazing visually, the casting was excellent, and the amount of sheer, uninhibited violence felt like a breath of fresh air from beginning to end. I loved it.

I loved the vampire twist. I had no idea the film was a vampire film. I was just watching it, thinking it was a caper/getaway film. All of a sudden, Salma Hayak wigs out and vampires go nuts. I was seriously surprised, but once I was able to mentally switch gears, I enjoyed the second half as much as the first. I've never read Frank Miller's Sin City graphic novels, or his Dark Knight work. I have read (and own) his graphic novel depiction of the Spartan's struggle against the Persians at Thermopylae. It's entitled, "300." Very good book. Highly recommended to those interested in the story of the 300 Spartans.

Kai, you really should read Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns", I think that it is possibly his finest work, along with "Batman Year One".... I've seen the trailers for the "Batman Begins", and I am not putting much hope in it as capturing the mood and feel of Miller and Mazucchelli's work. As for "300", I thouroughly enjoyed it, although Miller took liberties with some historical facts.

We don't get any mor maturer as we age. Instead, our toys get bigger and more expensive.

I've never read the graphic novels but I loved the movie. Wife and I have actually seen it twice.

Comic books haven't been for kids for years now. The stereotypical comic reader is the comic book guy on the Simpsons and the industry caters to him.
