Read his resume, he is obviously not a reverend but an atheist with an ironic bend.

but as long as it is accurate I don't care.
It's 100% accurate, the text is unadbridged and taken directly from the Bible.

I also would concur with some of the books of Bible stories for older children. When my stepson was still young (maybe 10 or 11), I bought him a beautifully illustrated book of that sort. He asked me if it had the story of the winged horse (Pegasus) in it! At age 22 and 3+ years of college, he is still a total religious ignoramus--wouldn't know Abraham from Jezebel! His mother--despite some years of church attendance--is little better. When we went to see the movie "Babel" last year, she had no idea what the title referred to!

For all the talk about how religious Americans are, especially compared to Europeans, most of the ones I encounter are Biblical and religious ignorami. Few can recognize a scriptural quote, even from the words of Christ himself. Some of this may be the result of living in Southern California, which is probably more heathen than most of America. However, even when I taught at Texas Tech, despite being in the heart of the Bible Belt, few of my students knew much about the Bible or sacred history in general.

No way! But, I bet she knows who Paris Hilton is, thus proving and making my point.

But, I’m sure they know that homosexuality (because the bible says so, although they couldn’t point out the passage if you asked them) is wrong and that’s all that matters, right? Right?

tiecollector: I don't know of any simplified Bible that I could recommend, but I've found useful a relatively short book entitled "You Can Understand the Bible," written by Peter Kreeft. It's an overview of the Bible that briefly describes each book of the Bible, indicating the principal points. It may not really be a substitute for some reading of the Bible, but it does describe various themes and topics and put them in context. Best wishes on your efforts!

Regards,
Rick

Check out the Concordance for a New American Standard Bible.

Or it could be archived in one of Jerry Falwell's sermons on the teletubbies...(No offense meant)

The sex scenes are hilarious. What I want to know is - who's legs are lying in the corner? What kind of sickos are these folks?

Maybe it's just me, but I think there's something kind of funny about a Cliff's Notes version of the Bible.
