Silvano Lattanzi's unique take on men's footwear is not a new story for shoe aficionados.
There were some threads in the past about Silvano Lattanzi, but we would like to start one with experiences, acknowledgements, photos, questions and general discussions about one of the true gemstones of handmade Italian footwear (and to this date one of the most expensive ones).
To begin the thread, let us show you some of our most recent acquisitions and offerings...

What do you guys think?

Any reason that these shoes are as expensive as they are? I really don't see anything special about them, when compared with other makers. I mean really 4-5K for these shoes, what am I missing?

Is that why we don't see much activity or discussion around here, because noone is buying them because they make absolutely no sense price-wise?

They seem to be targeted at men just buying them because they’re so laughable expensive. Tacky loud new money types..

They expensive because they very special.
High quality vintage leather used on many shoes.
Hand stitched sole (take lots of time to do and needed to maximize shoe integrity and shoe performance)
Hand welted shoe (take lots of time to do and needed to maximize shoe integrity and shoe performance)
Very unique and high quality shoe antiquing like no other man do (special Lattanzi talent)
The Lattanzi look
You pay for a Lattanzi masterpiece that no other man can match in brilliance in my experience

No no,
it can be the opposite.
No fancy heels,
just traditional boring heel for gentleman.
No fancy waists and close cut waist.
Many shoes are traditional shoe with genuine looking aged antiqing that make shoes look old grand style.
Some shoes look modern and silly,
but many are masterpiece.
Me have all types of good shoe,
but none pop like a lattanzi.
Lattanzi has it all.

Many of those shoe above = masterpiece.
Tan monk is typical Lattanzi,
it perfect in every way.
Wide welt,
great antique job
great last,
top leather

The other tan derby is perfect and typical Lattanzi.
The top shoes is also a masterpiece in design and color.
All signiture Lattanzi styling.
If you want the best you go to Lattanzi.
Once man have the best he never look back.

I'm really not seeing anything special or a "masterpiece" when I see those shoes but I guess that's just me. Or maybe I need to hold one in my hands to appreciate them.

What I'm really interested though is this, can you elaborate a bit more on the "High quality vintage leather"? What does that mean? Because, to be honest, I was always curious about leather. Every shoemaker out there these days claim that they use the best leather in existence, exactly like what's being used by bespoke makers, but this is all BS and I know it and I can see it. One thing though that I did notice is that bespoke JL, say, the leather looks much thicker and better quality than say JL Prestige or even Edward Green and G&G. Is that what JL Bespoke is using too, the type of leather you are referring to? Can you talk a but more on that if you have any insight?

Apparenlty Silvano Lattanzis are junk. See below (read the whole discussion) but this is what I personally thought from the getgo. It's one of those things where quality is only imaginary, thought of somehow being proportional to the exorbitant prices asked for the product: The more you charge, the more ridiculous and out of this world the price is, the more SOME people will think the product in question is worth every penny.

Silvano Lattanzi are "for big daddies". LOL. I'll personally stay clear of them.

and come on now, would the shoes below cost $6000? I would not pay $10 for them. Not even $5. I'll let the "big daddies" buy them.

Like, now, is this considered a "masterpiece"? I'm serious, if it is, what about it makes it a such? Or is this a lower-end pair?

Me not classify that as masterpiece,
but that shoe have character and no nonsense business shoe.
Not elegant but it have character.

Japanese bespoke is much nicer, for example TYE, YF, etc
It more pretty but it do not have the Lattanzi styling and special antiquing.
Japanese bespoke not as versatile.
A lot of Japanese bespoke all look the same.
Not every man can wear fancy shoe like that.
Lattanzi look more natural and have more character,
but it not as pretty.

Lattanzi are not junk,
they are very well made from the best leathers with top construction technique.
That threat heavily criticize good maker and it not fair.

Gaziano & Girling optimum = 2,700 gbp
Lattanzi is double that at least.

G&G =
* antiquing not as good
* leather not likely as good (not vintage leather like Lattanzi mainly uses)
* styling is limited (not versatile) and all look the same
* not a lot of character imo
* too pretty and precious imo

Lattanzi has very good presence
It suit many types of people
It has lots of character.
It can blend in and look natural

You get the right Lattanzi and it does not have the new money look of Japanese bespoke and G&G or Scafora.
It just right and look luxurious.

Lattanzi perfection.
Who make shoes with natural character like that?
Not G&G,
not scafora,
not Lobb,
not Japanese bespoke.

You see it?
People understand Lattanzi or they do not.
Most not understand it.
Lattanzi a world class and unique artist.
he can charge for the art of the highest order because Lattanzi very special.
Lattanzi perfection.jpg

Lattanzi buy lot of vintage leather long time ago.
Even Hermes probably not have what he got because Hermes is big business and always needs to source new leather from many tannery.
Lattanzi have big stock of highest quality vintage leather that apparently unequalled.
I Am Matt say it best leather he ever saw.
Other men who know about things also say it.

Me say Lattanzi the best.
He use the best leather in world.
He do the best antiquing.
He do all the constructions.
He make shoe with character.
He make shoe for everyone.
His shoes are not too fancy and precious,
they are mainly made for grand gentleman.
Maybe the last of the true luxury shoemakers,
not having to rely heavily on sourcing modern leather.
Enjoy the Lattanzi while it here,
good thing not last forever.

Wow, you are making a lot of assumptions there.

For example you are assuming that Lattanzi is using that vintage leather they once bought on all their shoes and G&G "leather not likely as good", and therefore paying $6K for a pair is justified. So making a lot of favorable ASSUMPTIONS which are just assumptions but then at the same time ingore the FACTS from that other thread.

I appreciate your passion though. You certaily sound like if he was charging $16K you would still think they are worth every penny because "Lattanzi is very special".

No,
Lattanzi uses a lot of that high quality vintage leather on many of their shoes.
Not all Lattanzi shoes use vintage leather.
Me know that because the antiquing has a unique look on that vintage leather.
Bespoke shoemaker who stay at Lattanzi tell me this.

That other thread is not good.
The man who repaired that Lattanzi is not from Silvano Lattanzi workshop.
He is third party repairer.
That cloth on insole also indicates a third party repair.
Cannot hold Lattanzi responsible for shoddy third party work.
Those picture you see not Lattanzi workmanship.
Lattanzi workmanship different to that.

I appreciate your passion though. You certaily sound like if he was charging $16K you would still think they are worth every penny because "Lattanzi is very special".
You pay the big $$$$ if you want the best.

Remember also,
many good makers say the leather not what it used to be.
One Edward Green man say the leather not good in 1950.
Leather not as good now as it was 30 years ago.
The vintage leather from England is the way to go.
Me know the leather unique and very high quality.
The best leather.

That thread say Lattanzi the last of the great shoemakers.
He probably right.
Who uses real high quality leather anymore?
Shoe makers use the best they can get,
but it not what it used to be.
Who can do all the constructions?
Who can get that special antiquing effect unique to that vintage leather?

Scafora = machine stitched sole.
The real function of scafora shoe is missing and integrity of construction = limited.

Hard to explain the special Lattanzi factor,
but you see it now?
