-just curious, does anyone actually wear silk shirts anymore? They seemed to be big in the early 90's but (perhaps mercifully) disappeared from the scene in recent years.

I have a couple of French blue heavyweight silk shirts that I had made in Hong Kong. I prefer Sea Island cotton.

Where would you wear them? to a club? Would you wear a blazer with them? And what kind of pants, shoes?

The shirts are heavy silk, with a cut-away collar and french cuffs. I'd wear them to my London club, not to a night club.

I wear buttondown collar silk shirts weekends under a sweater, a luxury Hardy Amies writes of in his book "The Englishman's Suit."

Cottons have so improved in quality that they now rival silk in almost every respect. Still can't quite get the affinity for bright dyes or the sheen, but in every other way cotton has surpassed the cloth of the emporers. I now sell about 10% of the number of silk shirts as compared to, say, the 1980's.

And just wait until MicroModal becomes available in quality shirtings.

I own, and wear a few Versace, and Gucci silk shirts.

The feeling, and look of the material is inherently different from cotton, and they tend to be costlier. Especially if there are graphics present, and are double cuffed.

And no, they are not Miami type graphics or anything garish like that.

I have 2 silk Hawaiian shirts from Avanti, one black with tigers and dragons and one yellow with... I can't remember. I rarely wear them, but when I have, I have gotten compliments on them.
