It's Saturday, the first day of the weekend and I have had a 'varied' day which included:

1) Getting up at 5am
2) Driving 45mins to the coast
3) Running 10k on flats, up/down hills and stairs before sunrise
4) Almost drowned in a rock ocean pool/bath following run (post run workdown...very rough seas this morning)
5) Drank Coffee
6) Watched re runs of Seinfield
6) Drank Alcohol
7) Ate Pasta -Carbs

Now it all sounds exhausting and it is. I have tried to have an afternoon siesta but interestingly enough although I have dropped out of consciousness, afterwards when I woke up (30mins later) I still feel tired and crap. I suspect I was not getting REM and hence not feeling better upstairs.

I am not sure exactly what is the point of this post after than to record this as an observation.

I don't know about REM, but even a short 30-minute to 1-hr nap for me is amazing at re-charging me. For the first half hour after waking I am very spacey, but I feel good. Post-spaciness, I have renewed energy for the rest of the day.

I'm personally not the same after a nap, never get back fully up. I feel it especially if I try to go to the gym after getting up from some rest.

Honestly, it doesn't sound that tiring, but rather relaxing and enjoyable. My roommate works out 5 days a week, runs 7-15 miles everyday and works a full-time job.

Can't you cut out the coffee, Seinfield re-runs and the alcohol and get to sleep eariler?

to get into rem within 30 minutes you either have to practice polyphasic sleep, or if you remembered that dream phase you had some hypnagogic hallucinations before that. don´t even try to get into rem, just relax ..

generally speakng, one shouldnt nap more than 30-45 min,any longer than that and you might get into rem...

thats why you feel drowsy if you wake up after a 2-3 hour nap
