Network, Dog Day Afternoon and 12 Angry Men are 3 of my favorites of all time. Sad news.

+1

Network seems so prophetic in retrospect given the rapidly changing landscape of the news and entertainment industries and how the two have become more intertwined.

12 Angry Men is simply one of the best examples of compelling movie storytelling emerging from 90 minutes of masterful dialogue and acting.

Lumet and Kaufman used the camera very effectively to escalate the tension in the film. For the first third the camera is somewhat high or in a more natural position and we see the jurors in mostly wide shots. As the story progresses the camera begins to drop, the lensing goes longer and the room starts to become more claustrophobic. Finally in the last act the camera drops below eye-level and we see the ceiling which seems to press down on the jurors heads. First feature - low budget - Oscar nomination. Also considered one of the sweatiest movies ever made. lefty

"Network" is undoubtedly in my top 10 films. Lumet was a phenom.

Before the Devil Knows Your Dead is absolutely amazing. Everyone should watch this, 12 Angry Men, and Dog Day Afternoon at LEAST in honor of this man.

Is TMC going to broadcast his films? They just got around to Elizabeth Taylor's films a couple days ago. I want to see Murder on the Orient Express. And The Verdict.
