I just got the navy Nyco sateen fatigues in the same color and wore them first time the other day. Had the same exact same thought. It's the shade and saturation of blue that doesn't pair well. I thought my outfit looked off when I wore them with the 19th century birdy shirt and a pair of new balances.

Yeah – olive or lighter brown (khaki) or darker brown (e.g. antique herringbone wool from FW14).

I feel you on the jeans comment, but I do think that jeans being indigo (sorry to be :foo:) makes them a little easier to pair than straight blue. Because you have a CM background, I'm sure you can appreciate the minutiae discussed here: http://www.styleforum.net/t/349873/the-dreaded-odd-navy-pants-revisited

Definitely, although I don't always agree with the anti-navy pants CM crowd. So long as they don't look like orphaned suit trousers (e.g. - distinctive texture/pattern/detailing) I think they can work in that context. But here I totally get your point, almost an extension of the city/country dichotomy.

I love dark navy pants but I feel like if the shade is just slightly too light or saturated it throws everything off.

pants might be too saturated if your going for a storefront mannequin look ,
i think e.g. fits looks good with slightly different/off pairings.. otherwise you might as well wear banana republic fits (not that theres anything wrong with that)

    Clean man!

I am looking to trade off some XL WWM/EG, just putting it out there. If anyone is looking, let me know. I have some things that just don't get enough wear.

^ Do you have any sort of WWM or EG F/W field parka in XL? Would definitely entertain a trade.

The problem with blue EG pants is that there is way too much red in them. They're often not really blue or navy at all. This goes true to SS12 (13?) Lt. Blue Cotton Ripstop Fatigues and FW13 Duck Canvas Navy Fatigues and probably more, and that's why they're hard to match with other colors. In comparison a true blue is way easier to pair, add a texture to it (denim) and it's even easier. But it's the reddish tones that ruins it.
