Shoulders

[Superfluous]

Do you prefer a very soft, unstructured, natural shoulder? Or a slightly padded, sloping, structured shoulder (such as RLBL)?

I tend to like the prominent look of the sloping and roped shoulder from RLBL, and I just got a Borrelli sport coat that is completely unpadded. I like the look of the prominently shaped shoulder, but the feel of the soft shoulder. Which do you like and why?

I think there is room for all of them in one's wardrobe.

I like an unpadded shoulder with a slight rope at the sleevehead. I think a strong rope looks good in photographs, but in real life motion in them looks quirky. I don't like the unnaturalness of the spot where the rope is and the person's arm/shoulder is. It breaks the flow and elegance of the fabric and many times produces divots and breaks the line of the sleeve.

I haven't had the pleasure yet of trying on a RLBL jacket, but I prefer as little padding as possible, but there needs to be something there. IMO, I think zero padding looks kinda weird, but I hate huge football shoulderpads even more. I can't stand when everything about a jacket looks and fits perfectly, except for these big shoulderpads that jut out past where my actual shoulder ends (I have sloping shoulders).

I actually just bought a nice Burberry Made in Italy suit a couple weeks ago with a jacket that sits on my shoulder exactly how I like. There's just a little bit of padding, and it slopes right down over my shoulder and doesn't stick out at all. Got a pretty decent deal on it too....brand new at 50% off the original retail of $1100.

it depends on the shape of your shoulders. i am a little on the broad side so i prefer a soft shoulder so i dont look like an army general
