Hello All. After many months of avidly reading through these forums, the various opinions & discussions I find myself now entering the fray with a question.

Recent I purchased a suit in eBay. I'm not much if an eBayer actually…

Anyhow, the suit jacket is 33 in the shoulders, 42R chest, 32 length & sleeves 26 long. I'm wondering, because I'm 22 inches across the shoulders, whether the suit can be altered such that the suit will look alright on me? I didn't pay a lot for the suit so I'm not all that bothered if the suit is a throw away.

I'm 6 feet tall & ordinarily wear 42r with some alterations. If you need more info, just let me know. Thanks. :)

    Thanks.

Where did you take the shoulder measurements from? Put the jacket flat against a surface and use a measuring tape to measure the width across the back of the jacket for the shoulders. For a 42, it should be between 19" and 20", maybe a little more or less depending on cut.

The two places that are the most difficult to alter are the shoulders and the jacket length. Unless you have a very, very capable tailor, you're going to pay a lot of money for a poor product.

Ok. Thanks for the feedback. The suit is a brand new Anderson & Sheppard (it was only until I asked that I was informed, otherwise it was advertised with no description.).

Does that change the game at all?

Assuming that 33" shoulders was a typo or mis-measurement, you would perhaps be better off posting a photo of yourself in The Tailors' Thread for the best advice. Personally, I do not pass go if the shoulders don't fit right away, but I've narrowly resisted the temptation a few times in cases of exceptional quality.

OR, maybe the shoulder measurement was multiplied by 2.

Some people measure from the back middle of the neck, around the shoulder, and down to the sleeve and call it the shoulder measurement.

I've heard that called the "sleeve measurement" but never the shoulder measurement.

I've seen a few folks on eBay call it a shoulder measurement, I'm not saying it's correct.

Hi All. I've been stung. The suit chest size is a tight 42 and the waist is an even tighter 38. I am told by this seller that there is plenty of room to let out. Can someone say to whom I should engage with for alterations, and what sort of a cost might I be up for? I don't have a lot of dosh, that's why I buy from eBay. Thanks, Danke Schone, Raxmat, Obrigado, Merci, Gracias, Tak,, Dankie, Toda, Shukran :)

What city are you in? And how did the shoulders fit? Letting out everything else shouldn't be a problem. I've never had to had stuff let out, but to take in the waist generally costs me 30 dollars and the chest a little more.
