Should this sport coat be altered?

Or should I send it along, unmolested to someone whom it might fit better at a small profit?

Due circumstances too inconsequential to list here, I am wearing pre-SF clothing in the following shots, so please do your best to ignore it. I am seeking advice/suggestions as to whether this size 42 Beretta sport coat can be properly altered to fit me or is it just too damned big? I usually wear 42 in most anything I try but this is much roomier.

Let me say in advance that I would dearly love to keep this piece of apparel.

Not a hard-on, this is just how the jacket hangs.

You're going to have to start eating poorly and exercise less.

I know you're 'in the process' diggsy and some clothes have emotional value, but a well made sport coat or suit jacket has a cut and shape of it's own. You could and should make minor alterations such as sleeve length, waist suppression, slim, even shorten slightly to make it look it's best on you, but beyond such minor alterations you are interfering with the proportions of the jacket. e.g. If you shorten too much (more than about an inch or so) then the bottom button is too close to the hem. If you slim too much the darts and side seems are all thrown out of whack.

So with all your jackets that you are trying to save, ask yourself if they need minor tweaking (= keep) or major surgery (= get rid). And remember that shoulder fit is key because fixing that is very expensive and still might not be possible.
