Should I show Alien (1979) or District 9 (2009)?

I'm going to be showing a movie to about 80 students tomorrow, they're all 18-20yo. So, which would be better: District 9, or Alien?

Winner gets shown.

Alien is a great movie... BUT for kids that age it might be a bit boring since it runs kinda slow and the special effects are dated. Really unless you are older/saw it pre CG everything or a movie nerd it can come off as kinda lame, especially since a lot of scenes from it have been copied over the years.

Alien it is. Now I'm torn whether to give them Chinese subtitles or English. Some of them might miss something without the Chinese Subtitles, but it would definitely be more educational with English ones.

Will they understand (or care) about the allegorical stuff in D9? You could use that as the basis of a little cultural discussion.

Otherwise Alien is, as stated, a classic. Why it is considered as such could be the subject of something vaguely educational, if you're teaching anything along those lines.

Otherwise, some hot western Appreciation. Whet the girls' appetites for big foreign meat. Crack out the booze. Smash the pasty. Profit!

Gluck gluck gluck. I'm actually helping another professor out- he's taking the day off and our classes are at the same times, so we've combined our classes. I can't teach my planned lesson because his class is several levels behind mind and progresses slower- thus the movie. There's really nothing educational outside of Engrish.

I'm sure 2009 Star Trek would be better for their attention spans, yes?
