Good timing. I was just given cause to reflect on the sizing of these as compared to my Chambords.

I'd say get them if they appeal to you and they hit at a price point that you're comfortable with. Paraboots are comfortable shoes and fill a niche. For me, I'd rather have a pair of Alden Norwegian Split Toe bluchers than a pair of Avignons. However, I'm perfectly happy with a pair of Chambords over a JM Weston Golf, and because Alden's U-tip and soles don't capture the same style or details.

Current leather shoe wardrobe:

Thinking of getting some Paraboot Michaels, but unsure about the color. Considering:

Bison or Grainé

Lisse marron or Coffee

Interested in what people would pick, but especially interested in the why: how do you go about picking shoe color in a casual wardrobe?

In this case:

• I'm excluding black because I'd like my next black shoe to be slimmer, either a side-zip or a loafer of some kind.
• I'm excluding brighter browns: I already have trouble wearing those Buttero Floyd I've included in the list. They are almost tan, quite saturated, surprisingly hard to include in an outfit.
• I think all options I'm considering could work ?? hard to go wrong. Leaning towards Lisse marron (because of the reddish color) or Bison (because I don't have a grained shoe).

I own two pairs and am a fan––they are a strange shoe in that they are perhaps too "formal" to work with casual pants but they also have thick rubber soles and other details that make them a little too "doc marten like" to be a straight swap for a pair of actual dress shoes.

If you're planning to wear them with fatigues, jeans, etc. I'd go with the Chambord, Michael, or something else entirely. I generally wear mine with a suit or trousers/SC, but I'm in a field where no one really gives a ****.

I agree that they run a half size large (in addition to the US>UK conversion). They also fit more like normal shoes than the Michael, which run really short.

Or simply use a cream (Meltonian or other) that’s very dark brown. It will darken it a shade or two. Some people use black cream polish to darken leather.

I've never done that and hadn't thought of it, thank you!

Part of me loves the color… I'd rather learn how to wear it than change it. It's been a process. I see few people wearing tan shoes well, so I'm probably not alone.

I do like the utility vibe and I think the metal snaps fit in with that. But now I can't unsee the ribbed sleeve and am not loving how it bunches. Good eye.

My recommendation then would be to avoid high contrast between pants and boots. You want to stick with high value (light) colors for pants, so for example they’d look a lot better with light washed jeans than dark raw denim, or with tan/beige fatigues rather than something dark. White and cream will look great with that shade too.
