seriously though, Theory isn't all that great a brand. I own some linen shorts from them as well as a plum button-up. They're okay, but for the money i paid for them (even on sale) they were still too much. I wouldn't buy again from them.

Really I think the "friend zone" comment comes from the fact that most zip up sweaters are pretty gay.

$125, non-SF-approved brand, barely used, may or may not fit

They all kind of capture the aesthetics I want in a black pair of boots right now.

Butteros will be the best quality wise, are they new or used? If there is a significant price difference, maybe try the Fryes or wait for a sale. Butteros or F+B can be found on sale throughout the season if you look hard enough.

Quality wise, Varvatos are the best provided its his mainline made in italy and not the star USA. Varvatos' boots have never disappointed are probably my fav out of all the designers.

If you can't afford Varvatos, hit those buttero's.

I tried those JVs... they are incredibly high, at least in my size (11). They came up to like mid calf

I would def go for the Butteros... I think Moma has some good black boots as well, check for em on Yoox

New, Made in Mexico, Fryes are trash. The Butteros are probably the best made of the list, though they look significantly used so you had best be getting a price reflective of that, the JV should be on sale at the end of the season, if you really want those, I'd save up/wait for sales

These below look like the Frye lace ups that were popular here a couple years ago. They disappeared, look like they are back now under a different model name. Made in USA boot. I have the black & cognac from the old model. Definitely wearable. My cognacs are beat to **** from winter slush, looking really good now.

i seroiusly don't see a difference other than the polish used.

i can attest to allen edmonds quality for the price though.

try to get seconds, save you a good 30% at least usually, no discernible difference from first.

Those Aldens are above and beyond what I'd ever want to spend on shoes.

The AEs are just $100 more than the Florsheims so I guess that's a done deal.
