I should say too that those fisherman sandals are pretty standard. You can get them from almost any good sandal maker. No need for special brands - if that's the style you want, which it seems other people here don't!

Those just remind me of dad sandals. I remember seeing some from Tommy Bahama at the thrift. I passed pretty hard.

I don't see anything wrong with the fisherman sandal silhouette. Personally, I have a pair from De Bonne Facture which give casual, South of France vibes instead of Dad in the Garden. I think the main difference is the sole. The DBF iteration has a loafer-esque leather sole, the Paraboot is more like Orthopedic Sketchers.

The back strap is also much nicer, and more like a sandal, than the other ones.

What does "pass[ing] pretty hard" look like for you?

I find that sometimes a whispered "oh my god" or "oh no" escapes from my body when I come across something particularly onerous.

I literally wince and pick it up out of a morbid curiosity. It's a natural reaction of something I don't like.

I will admit the DBF one is better, the sole does make a big difference.

Every style of every garment or shoe can have good versions and bad versions. It’s common sense for those like us who have looked at fashion stuff for such a long time.

this sandal style itself is more often than not quite bad, but the Botte Gardianne ones that DBF collabs on are actually nice. They’re better balanced and a mich nicer shape overall.

I like fisherman sandals, but don't like the Paraboots. I think it's partly because the leather makes them look like 20-year-old sandals that have been sitting in the sun and your uncle refuses to throw them away kinda thing. Perhaps they would look better if the leather was a normal dark brown color.

Another kind of sandal for hot weather, not as rustic as the Paraboot or Birkenstock, on sale now.
