cant go wrong with either, but since i own that in navy and find i wear it all the time, i'll vote navy

How do you find it fits? Is it really as oversized as it appears or is it just oversized in that classic balmacaan way -- if that makes sense? I've always really liked this coat, but seeing it styled in the Japanese magazines and Instagram posts I can't tell if it would be too oversized appearing to be more then just a casual overcoat.

Really I'm trying to decide between this one, the PWVC Permanent Style one, an SEH Kelly one, or something from Grenfell.

I'm a 37 chest and take a 36 in most KS outerwear, including this one. I'd say it's not as full as a "classic" bal coat, but definitely fuller than what you'd get from APC and many "contemporary" brands. I really like the shape. It's an A-line coat, if that matters to you.

IMO, a lot of KS stuff is great cause it's right in the middle of CM and SWD. It's a bit more classic than a lot of SWD, so it works with casual CM brands like LL Bean. But it's also a more interesting version of than most CM casualwear. The fit is something like that too.

how to size the travelers coat? size 38 = medium?

I would do it by chest size. It's a fuller coat, so you can prob size down depending on your preferred sleeves. I'm usually between a 36 and 38. Took a 36 here. Also usually take an XS or S, although more S these days.

@dieworkwear what do you think of the Valstar long coats? I like the Glenplaid VBC one, but probably don't need another coat.

They look great, IMO.

I kind of hate how long coats are super useful and you can use them in almost any outfit, but you also want a ton of them because there are so many good designs. It just makes you feel guilty about buying more, but ... they're also pretty great.

I'm confident I have more long coats than shirts.

SIPANG!!!

@sipang - what are you dressing in these days? Last I remember you were dressing more cm

see illustration above :nodding:

But if you must know --and sorry to disappoint-- for the last year or so I've quite enjoyed dressing in unbelievably boring variations of: rust/brick-colored jackets, vests for the layering and the carrying, linen shirts everyday, wearing jeans again (which I'd sworn off ten years ago so...), of questionable fit to make things worse (always sitting too low, too slim, despite my best efforts) and yuks/vans/wallies on the feet.

If/when I stop being lazy I'll probably gravitate towards soporific slouchy suiting and more dressed up comfy stuff again. I have a few reference points I keep very vaguely coming back to: Margaret Howell, Hermès x Margiela and vintage tailoring/proportions (~ 20s/30s/70s). Then it's just a matter of finding CM stuff that sort of works within those parameters.

Brown.

Sizingwise, my 2 cents. I got a 38 in the traveller, and am a medium most things i own(EG mostly and an eu 48 in suits). Fits big enough that i can get a thick sweater under for the coldest days. I have the camel from last year, and it's one of the coolest things i own.
