1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

They consistently hit 40% off though (both the Jil and the Raf). I see them every sale season. $500 for a shoe you've wanted for years isn't that much, especially those as they're very well made.

+1 and you can't base value of shoe off a one time Gilt deal

That said I would probably just buy a shell Alden ptb. I haven't handled the Raf ones but the Jil ones I wasn't too impressed with. Shell is also zero care required minus shoe trees and brushing every once in a while

These will be $455 + tax next corporate 30% off day, you can check BB sale thread to find out when it is / how to get a card

Also look at Yang Li derbys. Prices have hit $400 or lower every season.

I mean I know I'd never see that price again, but I'd have a hard time justifying paying over $450 for a pair of shoes considering I have no job haha.

Those BBs are nice, made by Alden? And I thought Cordovan wrinkles really badly?

Yea, I actually almost bought a pair from a SFer, sad I slept on them.

I feel like the adventures of reedo and his derbys have been going on for over a year now.

I'm kind of over fashion MC shoes. I've owned the Raf derbies and some of the other hyped shoes here and they're nice, but I like the Aldens, Trickers, Church's, etc. that I own more. A lot of those shoes are made by the big shoemakers anyway with a significant markup (see Thom Browne/Sanders) so you might as well buy the originals unless you can't find a silhouette you're happy with.

If you like the profile of Raf derbies go try out and the Allen Edmonds Leeds model, seriously. I had both albeit the pebbled grain Leeds, which I prefer, and I could not tell the different. Upon closer inspection the Leeds is a little bit rounder that I like more. YMMV

Good tip, I like the shape of the Leeds and know AE are well made (I have a pair of Strands). Do they run larger/smaller or narrower/wider than strands?

They are not as narrow and run roomier than Strands I believe. Go with your CP size e.g. I wore a 8.5US and wear a 42 in the Lemaire boot

I'd rather have the white Christy sole or the regular dark sole over those, but they're fine. It's hard to get excited over moccasins in 2014, but if you're going for some kind of heritage look, they could fit the bill.

Christy looks to clunky for me, I doubt I could pull it off.
Maybe I'm a bit behind regarding what's hot in 2014, so what are the go-to shoes for everyday beater nowadays? Please note that I tend to avoid sneakers as I don't think they go with my overall looks, which is far from sporty. And no boots because I already have some DB's.
    Thank you in advance.

The heel needs to be a bit higher to balance out that toe.
