Pretty much every single brand does this. Not just pins either but actually taking apart the shirt to make it fit. I've seen arms cut off and held together with safety pins because the arms weren't long enough for the model. Its outrageous how much each piece is changed.

Anyone have any idea whether Gilt does this as well? I always try to gauge my sizing off of what the pieces look like on the models - since I'm pretty much built like a scrawny version of most of them - but there have been a couple of times where it hasn't worked out (ok, most of the time it hasn't worked out).

Practically every shop does it, I doubt Gilt would be any different. The only possible exception I can think of is Yoox, they deliberately make everything ugly

Also, it might be more financially prudent to stop buying Gitman and hoping they finally work

It's best to assume that they all do; and one shouldn't be bothered by it because, aside from the fact that each aesthetics look best within certain proportions, everyone's build is varied. In fact, I use magnets to make my tops fit and hide them with outerwear. It has worked wonders. Admittedly, I stole this idea after seeing clothes bunched, stretched and pinned on mannequins at Ralph Lauren and Abercrombie & Fitch. Brilliant!!! Never even thought of it. As far as Gilt is concerned, you should get yourself to a tailor to have your basic measurements taken (i.e. chest, waist...) or take note of the measurements given in the DETAILS of garments that do fit you; then purchase accordingly (sometimes several sizes of each garment). The rest is actually trying on the clothes and send back what do/esn't fit. After a while, you'll build up a repertoire of designers who cut clothes true-to-size-to-your-body. You'll inevitably find yourself sizing up/down among other innovative ways to make things look "tailored."

For example, I purchased a pair of Kai-aakman jeans from Gilt last week. Since they carry only even sizes, I sized up 1, turning a pair of skinny jeans into a more relaxed fit. And since it's an Asian brand, the waist hangs perfectly right below my hip bones. What a nice surprise. I love it.

I kinda like my All Saints Brandon's. If you go to the AS Archive site, you can get the white ones for $65. They're not the best shoes ever, but they're a decent pair of goofy high tops.

Ha ha, I'm pretty sure I've never bought anything off of Yoox mostly because they make everything look so terrible.

And now that I think about it, Gilt has to pin their clothing for fit pics. Some of the pants they put on the models would fall off if they didn't (I'm pretty sure they consistently model a 32 waist).

Any thoughts on this Paul Smith bag? It hit 70% off today, and doesn't look bad at all for the price. I've never handled a PS piece in person before, though.

You know I like Gucci but there is just something about those that scream Nautica. I don't like the elasticized cuff and the elasticized buckle by the calf, it just makes tighter in the calves which isn't a good look.

Yeah that Balenciagas sizing is weird, 33" waist sounds insane but I took a risk since my Balenciaga trousers in a size 46 fits me well in the waist. Sometimes the measurements just seems off, like some of their RO leather jacket measurements in the chest 33"-35" in a size small when I know as a fact they aren't that small so sometimes you just got to pull the trigger and take a chance. Easier return at MrPorter too than LN-CC so it's worth taking a stab at it.
