Should I match belt buckle with monkstrap buckle?

I was looking at the C&J Savile. The dark brown ones come with natural brass buckle.

I know that I should get a dark brown belt to go with it, but should I also match the belt buckle with the shoe buckle?

Please don't worry about this. Get a nice belt in approximately the same shade as the shoes, and enjoy them both. If they happen to match, it should be a happy accident. Personally, I much prefer silver buckles anyway.

Matching leather colors approximately = conscientious (good)
Matching everything exactly = neurotic (bad)

I've always been under the impression that metals should match, i.e. belt buckle, shoe buckle, watch, fillings (kidding about the last one...). Is this notion now considered old school, or are you just being a renegade, j?

On the few occasions I have not matched belt buckle w/ watch, etc., I've had a foreboding that the fashion police were waiting for me just around the next corner ready to throw ****** in the sartorial slammer.

I don't know if there is really a 'rule' about it, or if I'm bucking such a rule, but I think it is somewhat absurd to match everything exactly, not to mention exceedingly expensive. Maybe watch and cufflinks, because they are so close together, but buckles and such, I really don't think it's that important.

There is indeed such a rule. It is one of the few that I violate with any regularity. When I was a kid, my grandmother gave me my late grandfather's box of cufflinks, collar pins, tie clips, etc. Some are quite nice. I wear the tie clip every day. It is faux-gold. I will wear silver cufflinks or a platinum watch with it without the slighest hestitation. I certainly would not worry about matching shoe and belt buckles.

I tend to try and match metals. But today, I'm wearing red high heel shoes with a silver buckle, and my jewelry is gold and pearls. I feel a little out of sorts. Certainly, if my skirt buttons are silver and many, I always wear silver jewelry.

Then again, I made sure to buy a black belt with a silver buckle to match my black monkstraps with silver buckles - and I got my cordovan belt with a brass buckle to wear with my pinch tassel loafers with the brass buckles... So who am I to talk. Bradford

Well, I probably don't deserve too much credit. To be honest, it was more along the lines of "I have to buy a new black belt and since I have the choice of a silver buckle or a brass buckle, I'll pick the silver because that will work with the shoes I already own." Â

I prefer them to match, but am not going to go buy a new belt to do so. It's not a big deal, just wear what you have and don't worry about it

Yes, Yes, Yes, always.
Nothing worse than a man wearing a buckle on his shoe in brass/silver, and then wearing a belt that does not have a complimentary buckle, even if it is a blended metal, ie...brass/silver mix...besides it gives good reason for the salesman to sell another uosale product when a person buys a new pair of shoes.

i've never heard of a specific rule but it's always felt like the proper and better look..anyway, i have enough(probably too much) of everything that it's no problem ever matching
