I'm in the market for a good watch (a Christmas gift from Mrs. Achilles_) and I'm wondering what you guys think about Tag Heuer models. I would buy used, preferably a silver automatic one. Any thoughts or recommendations? Should I look for another brand?

This is my first watch fyi...

Well I have a Tag (Kurium) I bought 10 years ago and, although I get compliments on it, it doesn't keep time very well.

I had a Tag for 20 years before movin' on up. Still looks as good as new, wore it every day, keeps excellent time.

+++1

F1 Chrono purchased in '92. Wear it daily, surf, swim, it's made the Alcatraz swim with me the last 6 years - looks good as new, keeps excellent time and still gets compliments.

I prefer Breitlings to Tags. I got a Colt Automatic in '03, and not that it's been that long, but it still looks fantastic and keeps great time.

No because if you trade in a Tag at Tourneau, the credit cannot be used towards the purchase of a Rolex.

take whatever you plan to spend ********** Heuer and shop Sales Corner on Timezone.com - infinitely better choices/better investments with actual style.
Omega Speedmaster, Breitling Navitmer, Vintage Rolex Datejust, come to mind

+1 Tag Heuer's aren't the best value for the money and they are way too common IMHO. It might help the recomendation process if you specified what you budget is and what your style preferences are (I.e., dive, sport, classic, chrono, pilot, etc)

Allow me to rephrase:

What is a good watch for under 1k? I will take all answers with a grain of salt, knowing that everyone will have a different opinion. Notice that I did not say amazing watch, or great watch. Just good watch. I mentioned Tag because that would be well below the 1k range. (used)
