Should I attempt to shrink my sweater?

I have this sweater that I really like and I just recently lost some weight, so it is now really baggy on me.

I was wondering if it is possible to shrink a 100% pima cotton sweater. The care tag says, "Hand Wash Cold Separately. Only Non-Chlorine Bleach When Nedded. Do Not Wring or Twist. Lay Flat To Dry. Cool Iron If Needed."

If it is possible to be done, should I try to hand wash it, or use the washer. And also should I use the dryer?

Thanks for any advice.

I tried this once but the sweater didn't shrink the way I wanted it to shrink.

It is a gamble ...

depens on quality, it may twist.
the seams may no shrink ...
It may also shrink more in one drection, depending on the weave.

I have PLPR that stay true even @heat in a tumble.
I have cashmere that has shrunk in a coldsycle but a fast tumble, and is now a nice felted slimfitt 4thread jacket (granted it was large).

So are you up for a gamble ...

It might be safer with 100% cotton fabrics. I've tried shrinking wool and cashmere blends to horrible end results. The main problem is usually the collars not holding up.

A good dry cleaners can usually resize a cotton sweater up or down as much as one and one-half sizes. They can also resize specific areas of a sweater. The process is called (knit) blocking. It works with most all natural plant and animal fiber knits. Not all dry cleaners have employees skilled in this procedure. So, be sure to inquire.

Maybe get it tailored instead? Taper the waist/arms?
