Shortening Jacket Sleeves

Hi everyone,

I just bought a blazer from Uniqlo that fits pretty well in the shoulders, but needs the sleeves shortened a bit. There is about 1.5" from the center of the sleeve button to the end of the sleeve.

My tailor suggested taking a half inch from the sleeve to see how it looks. I'm worried that the sleeves may still be too long even after this alteration.

I was quoted at $50 to take the sleeves up from the cuff and also the sides in a little. To take the sleeves up from the shoulder along with the sides, I was quoted $135.

Are these prices reasonable? The more complex alterations would cost more than the jacket itself. He told me that he would leave enough fabric to reverse the alterations done at the sleeve in case they weren't sufficient. Does anyone have any advice for my situation?

Thanks!

Since it's from Uniqlo I'm quite sure it does not have working sleeve buttons, so there's no reason to shorten from the shoulder. Whether it's worth the $50 to shorten from the cuff is up to you.

You're correct, the jacket does not have working sleeve buttons. However, it does have artificial button hole stitching, so I would imagine the sleeves can only come up so far, correct?

The cuffs should fall at the middle of my wrist bone when my arms are laying flat, right? I'm just concerned that there won't be enough room to take the proper length off, but I suppose it's not a bad idea to start at the cuff.
